It was only a matter of time, but Twitter recently released an announcement regarding the correction of follower/following counts.  According to their post,

For some time, the follower and following counts we display have been incorrect for some folks. We’re soon to push a change that will address this issue. This means that the count you see in your sidebar should match what you see on your follower and following pages.

However, a consequence of this change is that follower counts will drop for some people. In particular, those with large followings may see significant changes as we correct for spam accounts and data inconsistencies. No legitimate followings should be affected—we’re just cleaning up artifacts in the system.

So if you notice a drop in your number of followers…no need to worry, you did not do anything wrong.  It is just Twitter trying to clean up some accounts that don’t belong or are not appreciated by the Twitter community. Read the rest of this entry »

A lot of Twitter users are interested in adding more followers to their account.  Whether they are looking to expand their brand or looking to boost their online ego, the amount of followers can be an important factor in your Twitter world.

There was a recent launch of a new site that will help you add more followers to your Twitter account.  While these type of sites have been popping up more recently, this one has upset some Twitter users because of their own incompetency.

Who To Trust?

One important thing not only on Twitter, but for any site you come across, do not share your login information with anyone you do not trust.  Twitter is implementing something called “OAuth” which is a way for you to allow third party sites to access your Twitter account with your permission.  Using OAuth is a process that will protect your login credentials from third party sites while you still get to use the features and functions from those third party sites.  Basically they never see your password information. We are all aware of the power Twitter possesses, however I know some people don’t fully understand the concept or power of retweeting.  One way to think of a retweet is to compare it to forwading an email you may have received.  The email you are forwarding should contain interesting or relevant information to the people you are forwarding it to.

This same underlying principle can be applied to the concept of retweets.  When retweeting, you are telling your followers that the information you are posting is worthy of a look or a read.  Hopefully you have built a great relationship with your followers and more than likely are interested in what you are retweeting about.  Also, any tweet you create may be viewed as something by your followers and they could decide to retweet your tweet.
