Twitter Memes A.K.A. Twitter Hashtags

Questions often arise of some of the terminology used throughout Twitter.  One such term as of late is a “Meme”.  First off, let’s take a look at what exactly a meme means, so let’s head on over to our good friend Mr. Wikipedia.  According to Wikipedia, a meme is:

A meme (pronounced /miːm/ – rhyming with “cream”), is a postulated unit or element of cultural ideas, symbols or practices that gets transmitted from one mind to another through speech, gestures, rituals, or other imitable phenomena.
